ipod shuffle hard reset?
Hi,
I've had an ipod shuffle 512 since February, and all of a sudden it's
dead - won't charge or mount in OSX. I originally had some problems
with charging b/c I use an emac, and the shuffle won't fit without
an extention. I don't think this is the same problem.

Also, tried sending this back to Apple w/in 6 months with a
description of the problem, and they just sent it back with a list
of not-so-helpful troubleshooting tips.

Does anyone know a way to hard reset the unit beyond flipping the
power switch? Any other suggestions beyond dealing with Apple/Apple
store employees?

Thanks!

I see your post but I don't know, but a quick check of Apples site
reveals this:

http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300595

titled "Resetting iPod Shuffle"

suffered a catastrophic hard drive failure, and those who will."

Have you done your backup today?

You can try an update if the power reset does not work.

Open the latest iPod updater on your Mac.
When you see the message to plug your iPod in... Plug it in and update
it.
If does not see the iPod at that point... you have a broken unit, and
need to return to Apple for repair.
