A8N-E and BIOS 1003-005
Hi,

Has anyone tried the new beta BIOS? Especially those who have problems with
Maxtor Diamond 10 SATA drives?

Don't expect a problem like that to get fixed quickly. If you
own that drive, I would think the fastest solution is to get
the flash upgrade file from Maxtor. At least their solution is
ready to go, whereas with Asus, it could take three months.
Or, returning the disk drive to your vendor might be an
even simpler solution.

There was a fair wait to fix a problem with large Hitachi
drives a while back. Several BIOS releases were made, before
the release notes referred to the Hitachi problem being fixed.

I was just about to go the shop and try to get the DiamondMax drive
replaced (this was the final advice from Maxtor as no firmware was
update forthcoming) when I saw that a new BIOS was available. Downloaded
it, flashed, put the Maxtor drive and ..... WHOOPEE disk recognised by
the BIOS. Only been running a day and a half, but so far no problems.

Damn. It did't help my RAID 1 problem :-(
Blue screen after Windows is loaded, and then it reboots. Then it hangs when
checking RAID status, until it finally says "Healthy".

I decided not to push my luck and try RAID.

From emails with ASUS and Maxtor it seems that ASUS had got the
DiamondMax 10 to run on the A8N-E with an earlier BIOS (maybe even the
release BIOS), but their drive appeared to be a newer firmware version
than mine. Maxtor weren't forthcoming with a firmware update, they
suggested getting a replacement from the vendor.

I think I'll leave it as is now and maybe wait until an official BIOS is
released, that way I can see what's in the BIOS release notes.
