MSAsync - "Synchronization cannot be started"......
Greetings to all......

This is an odd one, it all started (i think) after uninstalling and
reinstalling McAfee 6.0. Now when I try to sync my ipaq i get a dialog box
from Outlook (that's what it says in the title bar) with this message -

"Synchronization cannot be started because you are not able to log on to the
network and access information. Restart your desktop computer and syncronize
again."

Did that, and even tried MSAsync 3.8 and then reinstalling 3.7.1. At this
point I'm out of ideas, anyone else got any?

thanks!

Can you try disabling McAfee 6.0? Is this just the AntiVirus product,
or the security suite? It's possible that McAfee is blocking the
scripts necessary for ActiveSync to communicate with Outlook to
synchronize the information, or something similar to that.

Re: MSAsync - "Synchronization cannot be started"......
Rob,

Thanks for replying....

Not only have I disabled McAfee (security suite), but I've also uninstalled
it and cleaned the registry. The only other thing that's occured on the PC
in question was the installation of a Resco product, which installed without
problems. However the wcesmgr.log file has a related entry (it's the first
item in the excerpt below) along with some suspicious Outlook entries -

Re: MSAsync - "Synchronization cannot be started"......
Here's some info I forgot to add before.... I'm using OL2003, and I also
checked the MS KB. I found a couple of articles that are near to the problem
I'm having but not exact. Unfortunately I can't determine what events
occured prior to this problem.

thanks again!

Looking at the log file, can you try running Help -> Detect and Repair
in Outlook, and then reinstall ActiveSync and see if it helps.

Re: MSAsync - "Synchronization cannot be started"......
Woohoo! That fixed it, I wish I could determine the cause and never do that
again!

Thank you very much!

FYI to all.... i left both boxes unchecked in the detect and repair dialg,
the process worked w/o any problems.
