"No AUTD for you!"
Guys,

I am having the weirdest problem. More than likely, it's something I am
missing, I just don't know what. I just recently upgraded our Exchange 2000
server to 2003 and, coincidentally, got me an SMT 5600 smartphone. I can get
the smartphone to sync up with the server without a problem, so server
ActiveSync seems to be functioning properly. However, I don't ever get the
option to set up "Always-up-to-date" notifications.

I've watched all the webcasts I could find and have followed all the
instructions I could gather, however it all seems to break down at the point
where, upon server sync, the smartphone says "Aha! Your server suppports
AUTD, why don't you set up your SMS SMTP settings". In my case, I never see
that dialog box and there is no option in Mobile Schedule to sync "As new
messages arrive".

What am I doing wrong? Where should I look?

Re: "No AUTD for you!"
Did you check the Exchange 2003 Mobile Settings (somewhere in the MMC
snap-in). There is a place to enable AUTD, OMA etc. for user access. That
may be it.

Yes, those are all checked:

Enable user-initiatied sync -- checked.
Enable up-to-date notifications - checked.
Enable notification s to user specified SMTP addresses -- checked.

Enable OMA -- checked.
Enable unsupported devices -- checked.

Re: "No AUTD for you!"
There is another one at the Snap In "ActiveDirectory Users & Computers"
On the "Properties Page" of your Account is a Tab called "Exchange
Features".

The Settings there Override the Settings in the Exchange System Manager.
Check, if there is anything "unenabled"

Re: "No AUTD for you!"
Nope, all enabled.

Outlook Mobile Access -- enabled.
User Initiated Synchronization -- enabled.
Up-to-date Notifications -- enabled.

Thanks for the suggestions guys -- maybe the next one will finally nail it!
:)

I wonder if there is a way to check whether Exchange server properly
advertises the AUTD availability to the smartphone.

I donwloaded two tools: "AUTD Troubleshooter" and "AUTD Bindings Cleanup
Tool":

The troubleshooter would never get past attempting to retrieving the list of
carriers. From what I could see (using Reflector -- it's an ASP.NET site),
it is not building the ADSI path to the Carriers container correctly.

The cleanup tool bombs with "Object reference not set to an instance of an
object." error.

Could this be a voodoo curse maybe?

Re: "No AUTD for you!"
Hey DG,

Just to confirm, do you see the option "When new items arrive" under your
Mobile Sync Schedule via the menus below (cuz I do)?

Start -> ActiveSync -> Menu -> Options -> Mobile Schedule

On my SMT5600 when I select "When new items arrive" I was prompted that I
must enter a "Text Message Address" then it automatically pulled up the
Server Setting's Connections page where I enter the Text Message Address in
the format 9165551212@mobile.att.net. Then I did a manual sync, which
updated my server with the new notification address and now my AUTD works
great!

This is the menu where you enter the "Text Message Address" for
notifications:

Start -> ActiveSync -> Menu -> Options -> Server Settings -> Connection

If you're still having trouble, check out MS article KB822176.

Good luck!

- Sean in Sacramento, CA

Re: "No AUTD for you!"
Sean, I don't see that option. The only ones that I have are:

Manually
Every 5 minutes
Every 10 minutes
Every 15 minutes
Every 30 minutes
Every 60 minutes
Every 2 hours
Every 4 hours

What I was wondering if maybe this option is added only if the server
somehow "advertises" AUTD support.

Re: "No AUTD for you!"
Dimitri

Have you tried
http://support.microsoft.com/defaul...kb;en-us;841995

If you turn ActiveSync Logging on within Exchange you should see events
being generated and Exchange sending the SMS message to your device. Our
issue was that these SMS messages weren't being generated. Once we applied
the hotfix SMS messages were then being send to the phone.

Hope that helps!

Richard

Hi Dimitri,

Please verify that you don't have anything blocking "verbs" like an ISA
server.

Re: "No AUTD for you!"
There is a document at
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...&displaylang=en
which describes how to setup Exchange ActiveSync with ISA Server. Step 8
details how to configure the PassOPTIONSToPublishedServer registry entry.
Without this enabled, the client will never know that the server is capable
of doing AUTD.

Best regards,
Christian Törnqvist
