I'm wanting to record live radio streams from winamp, is this possible?

I don't believe so.
But there are alternatives. A couple:

Audacity sound editor (Freeware).
Play the radio, click "Record" on Audacity. Then edit out the portion you
want. This is quite a comprehensive program considering that it's free.
